Article 5 of the Indian Constitution deals with the citizenship of India at the commencement of the Constitution (January 26, 1950). It specifies that at the time when the Constitution came into effect, every person who had their domicile in the territory of India and:

1. Was born in the territory of India, or
2. Either of whose parents was born in the territory of India, or
3. Who has been ordinarily resident in the territory of India for not less than five years immediately preceding such commencement,
shall be considered a citizen of India.
This article essentially laid down the initial provisions for citizenship in India when the Constitution was adopted. Please note that changes and amendments to citizenship laws have occurred over the years, so the current provisions may be different from those in Article 5.
